Did you know? Canton, Ohio is the birthplace of the NFL
Pro football history traces its roots directly to downtown Canton. On Sept. 17, 1920, legendary athlete Jim Thorpe and 11 charter team representatives met in an automobile showroom to form the American Professional Football Association — renamed two years later as the National Football League. Bringing Hall of Fame legends to our community
The museum connects deeply with the surrounding area year-round, extending far past Enshrinement Week. Hall of Famers return regularly for appearances, youth initiatives and special campus experiences.
Our residents love celebrating these moments. Take a look at these highlights:
- Inspiration from a gridiron pioneer: Check out our Facebook spotlight on Hall of Famer Willie Lanier’s visit. The former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker — one of the first Black middle linebackers drafted into professional football — joined residents for an unforgettable Q&A on teamwork and perseverance.
- Insider views on building a winning team: Read our Facebook post featuring Hall of Famer Ron Wolf. The legendary general manager credited with revitalizing the Green Bay Packers shared behind-the-scenes stories about leadership and championship football with our community.
