Staff at Canton Regency Gain Special Doll Therapy Certification for Dementia Care

CANTON—Two staff members at Canton Regency Senior Living have earned a unique certification that is designed to provide emotional comfort and reduce anxiety for residents living with dementia. Andi Blood, director of resident life, and Kelly Willam-Fornash, life enrichment coordinator, recently completed the Doll Therapy certification course developed by The Grand Baby Project, a national nonprofit. Blood and Willam-Fornash are two of only 100 caregivers nationwide who have earned the certification to date.

In addition to providing memory care, Canton Regency also provides independent living and assisted living housing and services for residents in Stark County.

“We are excited to implement this therapy into our memory care programming,” said Executive Director Lisa Massey. “We are always looking for new and innovative ways to support our residents that are wholistic and non-pharmacological, and I appreciate the initiative of these staff members in earning this certification.”

Doll therapy involves giving a person a soft, lifelike doll to hold and care for, which can provide emotional comfort, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of purpose.
