Canton Regency Residents Enjoy a Day on the Water at Portage Lakes

Canton Regency Senior Living residents and team members recently enjoyed a day on the water during a boating excursion aboard the Portage Princess at Portage Lakes. The outing provided an opportunity to explore the area’s history, enjoy lunch together and create new memories with friends.

The excursion included a guided tour of Portage Lakes, where residents learned about the area’s 48 miles of shoreline and the history behind the natural glacier lakes. The captain and tour guide shared stories about the lakes’ role as a flood control system and the many activities that bring people together throughout the year.

“We had some residents, some staff members, had some lunch on the boat, and just enjoying the breeze, some good times,” said Lisa Massey, executive director of Canton Regency.

The beautiful weather added to the experience, allowing residents to relax, take in the scenery and spend quality time together outside the community. Joe Campanelli, director of wellness at Canton Regency, shared that the day was both informative and enjoyable for residents.

“It’s been a nice, relaxing day, especially for the residents. They’ve truly enjoyed it,” Campanelli said.

For some residents, the boat ride brought back personal memories. Resident Barbara S. reflected on the experience and the connection it brought to her past.

“My mother lived on a lakefront property, and I remember those days,” she said. “I saw wonderful, beautiful houses and big boats!”

Resident Richard G. also enjoyed seeing the lake from a new perspective. Although he had lived near Portage Lakes for years, the excursion offered a chance to appreciate the area in a different way.

“I’ve lived out here on this lake for years, but I don’t come up here [anymore]. So, this is very, very nice,” he said.

The boating excursion is just one example of the many opportunities that residents have to stay active, connect with others and enjoy new experiences at Canton Regency. The community’s calendar is filled with a variety of activities, outings, wellness programs and social events designed to encourage connection and engagement every day.

Life at Canton Regency is about having the freedom to pursue interests, try new experiences and spend time with neighbors and friends. Residents can enjoy local outings, engaging activities and opportunities to stay connected with neighbors and friends.
