At Canton Regency Senior Living, we are pleased to celebrate 30-year anniversaries for two important staff members, individuals who clearly bring warmth and friendliness to the community for the benefits of residents and their co-workers every day. We are proud to celebrate the work anniversaries of Wanda and Sue, who have each devoted 30 years to making Canton Regency feel like home.
Wanda
Wanda first came to Canton Regency after working with young children and caring for her mother. Her first role was as a receptionist on evenings and weekends, and after four years, she moved into the Director of Marketing & Sales role, where she spent more than two decades welcoming new residents into the community. Today, she’s back at the front desk, where she continues to bring warmth and comfort to everyone who walks through our doors.
The job has evolved over the years. “These days, residents ask a lot more questions, especially about technology and doctor appointments,” Wanda said. But she wouldn’t trade it for anything. “I love listening to people. It’s important to lend an ear.”
Ask Wanda about her favorite memories, and she lights up describing costume days and resident celebrations. “We make sure everyone feels included.” It’s that spirit of belonging that’s kept her here all these years. “This is my home,” Wanda shared. “Even though I don’t live here, I feel like I’m part of a big family.”
Wanda is also known for her signature style, especially her earrings that she matches with whatever is happening in the community. She often wears jewelry made by residents at Canton Regency.
Her advice to those just starting in senior living is to have patience and listen, really listen. That wisdom, combined with her natural empathy, has inspired not only her colleagues, but also the younger team members she mentors. “I tell them to slow down and take their time with the residents,” she said. “It makes all the difference.”
Sue
Sue joined Canton Regency thanks to a recommendation from her daughter, who worked at the community first. “She had just graduated high school and told me about an opening,” Sue says. Thirty years later, Sue continues to serve in the dining room, building meaningful relationships with residents, one meal at a time. “I care deeply about the residents’ experience,” she said. “It matters to me that they feel seen and cared for.”
For Sue, the best part of her role is the people. “I genuinely enjoy spending time with the residents,” she said. “Listening to their stories, sharing laughs, it’s incredibly rewarding.” One of her favorite memories is hosting parties for the Shriners.
Residents look forward to seeing Sue, and it’s easy to understand why. She cares for the residents’ experience. As for her favorites in the kitchen? She loves the blueberry pancakes and the “mush.”
Sue’s advice to anyone entering the field? “Approach your work with patience and kindness. Take the time to get to know the residents, it’s the most rewarding part.”
